With an aim to capitalise on the increasing acceptance of AISF leader Kanhaiya Kumar among Kerala youth, the CPI is planning to field the former JNU students’ union president for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Kerala.
Though there is no official decision in this regard, the common opinion is that such a move could prove beneficial for the party, considering his popularity among youth.
No discussion has taken place within the party about the candidates for the 2019 polls, but a senior leader of AISF said Kanhaiya Kumar’s name is being considered, at least in informal meetings.
If at all Kanhaiya is contesting from Kerala, he will be fielded in Thiruvananthapuram, party sources said.
Recently, Kanhaiya was in Kerala to inaugurate the AISF State Conference. The party leaders were taken aback by the overwhelming participation of youngsters at his events.
Kanhaiya Kumar and his ‘Azadi’ team in JNU celebrated death anniversary of terrorist afzal guru who was one of the attacker on Indian Parliament. He did not even condemn the “bharat ke tukde honge” slogans raised by his “Azadi” team mates
