Irate over the hike in VAT on petrol by 5 per cent, the members of the Aam Aadmi Party today staged a protest and burn the effigy of the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar outside Mini Secretariat. They raised the slogans against the government and demanded the withdrawal of the hike.
The protest led by AAP workers Rampal and Rani along with other workers took out a procession in the city and reached in the front of the Mini Secretariat, where they burnt the effigy.
The prices of crude oil have been declining in the international market but the state government is making fool of the public by increasing VAT on petrol, which has resulted in rise in the prices of petrol, said Rampal. The state government should withdraw this hike for the benefits of the people, he added.
However, things went wrong, as it usually does wherever Aam Aadmi Party is involved, and the said AAP worker accidentally set himself on fire while burning the effigy. The worker was eventually rescued and has got burns on the legs.
Oblivious to the fact that his own party worker got burnt while carrying out the act, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh shared the image on Twitter. However, once he realised, he deleted the tweet.
