Big Trouble For Kamal Hassan, Here Is what Varanasi Court Will Be Doing For His So Called “Hindu Terror” Remark

A Varanasi court on Saturday ordered an FIR to be filed against Tamil actor Kamal Haasan for his write-up on ‘Hindu terror’, a day after a lawyer filed a compliant accusing the actor of ‘hurting religious’ sentiments.

Haasan, who is said to be gearing up for a political foray in Tamil Nadu in the future, has been booked under related sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 296 pertaining to hurting religious sentiments, 500 for defamation and section 511 that deals with punishment for offences punishable with imprisonment up to life.

Varanasi-based lawyer Kamlesh Tripathi had earlier approached the court and had appealed it to take cognizance of the actor’s article, titled “One cannot say there is no Hindu terror anymore.” in which Haasan had argued that the “right wing cannot challenge the fact that there is no Hindu terror.”

Tripathi had claimed that Haasan, by making such a remark, has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.

Notably, if found guilty under the above-mentioned sections, the veteran actor could reportedly face a jail term of up to nine years.

The next date of hearing in the case is November 22.

Meanwhile, Haasan continues to remain brazen about his stand and has refused to apologise for his remarks.

“The right wing cannot challenge anyone asking the question – Show me one Hindu terrorist? Terror has spread into their camp as well. Such terror activities are not going to help them in any which ways…” Haasan had in the column.

The BJP had reacted strongly to Haasan’s remark, stating that he was talking in the language that people like controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik use.

Speculation has been rife that Kamal Haasan is set to take the political plunge. Even Haasan has clearly indicated that his political debut is on the cards.

He has been criticising the ruling AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu and meeting leaders from several political parties, including Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

He recently asked his fans to get ready and expect a big announcement from him on November 7, when he will celebrate his birthday.
