The practice is already banned in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and United Arab Emirates (UAE)
A five-judge bench pronounced the verdict, out of which three were expected give different judgements and other two were expected to conform with one of the three. The five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice J.S. Khehar, included Justice Kurian Joseph who is a Christian, Justice Rohinton Nariman who is a Parsi, Justice Uday Lalit who is a Hindu and Justice Abdul Nazeer, a Muslim.
