Padmavati row : Trouble For Javed Akhtar, FIR lodged against him for allegedly insulting Rajputs

Amid ongoing protests against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s soon-to-be-released controversial movie Padmavati, a police complaint has now been filed against veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar for allegedly insulting the Rajputs.

According to reports, the FIR against Akhtar – regarded as a living legend in the Hindi film industry – has been lodged at the Sindhi camp police station, Jaipur.

According to reports, Javed Akhtar had said allegedly said that the Rajput kings never actually fought against the Britishers in the last 200 years.

The complainant further alleged that the lyricist had insulted the bravery of Rajputs.

While defending director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial historical epic Padmavati on Monday, lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar had made objectionable remarks against the Rajputs, who have been protesting the film’s release over its depiction of Queen Padmavati.

“The Rajputs and the Rajwadas never fought against the British and now they are taking to the streets against a film and a filmmaker. All these ‘ranas’ ‘rajas’ and ‘maharajas’ of Rajasthan were serving in the courts of the British for 200 years. Where did their Rajput honour and valour go that time? They have become what they are since they had accepted to serve the British,” Akhtar had reportedly said this while talking to a news channel.

Akhtar also reportedly slammed those protesting against the film and demanding a ban on its release.

However, his remarks that Rajput rulers never fought against British evoked sharp reactions in the state.

Mahendra Singh Mewar, one of the direct descendants of Chittor ruler Rawal Ratan Singh has condemned Akhtar’s remark in an open letter.

Meanwhile, Shri Rajput Karni Sena’s state president Mahipal Singh Makrana has threatened Akhtar daring him to enter Rajasthan.

“Akthar has lost our respect. From now on he is banned in Rajasthan and if he dares we will thrash him on the streets, ” Makrana said.

“Rajputs and Rajwadas have sacrificed their lives and he is mocking our history and saying we were serving the British,” he said.

“He does not deserve ‘Padharo Mhare Des’ treatment any more. He speaks a lot in literature festivals and next time we are not going to allow him to even come to Jaipur and speak,” Makrana threatened while talking to newsmen while burning effigy of the eminent writer-poet and lyricist.

Salman Khan and Akhtar”s views are like that of prostitutes where money matters the most. Their pictures should be boycotted by all Indians.

Makrana is also the one who had threatened to chop off Deepika Padukone’s nose and ears, a few days ago.

Really irresponsible comment from Akhtar which is expected given the disdain for truth and historical facts rampant in Bollywood. Fact is that the marathas were repeatedly attacking Rajasthan and had already sacked Jaipur twice and Udaipur many times. There was no question of any Rajasthan ruler helping marathas fight the British. Successors of Shivaji were poor characters and we all know how they sank themselves in booze and dance during 1857 against the advice of Laxmi Bai and consequently lost their advantage over the British. It was a good riddance for India and Rajasthan

Wrong to say successors of Shivaji were poor characters or that they sank in booze or so. I hope you have heard about Peshwa BajiRao who never lost a war. How Marathas had took control of Delhi, how they had won back areas till Peshawar, how they had defeated Nizam HyderALi/Tipu and even British. Despite 1761 debacle , in a few years Peshwa MadhavRao had taken control of lot of area in India in North. However subsequently after 1890 their gradual fall as they faced British and then in 1819 had finally lost Delhi to Britsh. Even in 1857 while some factions fought against British successfully for some time, some factions supported British like in Gwalior.
