On Independence Day, MaryKay Carlson, the U.S. Ambassador to India, took to Twitter to share an image of herself in a beautiful traditional saree. “#SareeSearch success! Excited to attend #IndependenceDayIndia celebration wearing the voters’ choice – Kanjeevaram. #WeWearCulture” she captioned her post on Twitter.

For a while now, Carlson has been on a mission to find the right saree. She posted an array of photos and questions under the hashtag #SareeSearch and asked people to share their views. Not too long ago, Carlson had carried out a Twitter poll where she asked the Twitterverse to help her decide between Jamdani, Dupion, Kanjeevaram and Tussar. She said, “My #SareeSearch continues. Help me pick one to wear for #IndependenceDay by voting for your favorite. #WeWearCulture.” Almost 2000 Twitter users responded to her post to help her take the right call.
