Balochistan saw massive protests after the police did not hand over a Hindu man suspected of committing blasphemy against Islam. The mob of locals chanted Allah O Akbar and other religious slogans in the Lasbela district’s Hub area of Balochistan, DawnNews reported.
The failure to hand over the man made the locals resort to pelt stones at the police.
Prakash s/o Prem Chand, aged 35 is a local businessman and he was suspected of sharing a picture containing anti-Islamic content on WhatsApp.
Already a First Information Report was registered against Prakash on the complaint of various community members under Sections 295-A and 295-C of Pakistan’s blasphemy law. The Hindu man is in the Gaddani Central Jail.
Sources told Currentriggers.com that the locals are demanding that the shops/businesses owned by the Hindu man in Balochistan and his family be shut down forever. Prakash was brutally beaten up by the mob which had gathered to lynch him. The role and the influence of ASWJ on SHO Hub Chowki Attaullah Roonjha may also need to be investigated as it was he who first told a friend that he saw what Prakash was sharing and allegedly described it as blasphemous. Radical Islamic organizations have a good sway in the region contrary to the secular line that Balochs otherwise take.
The Hindu community believes that the charges were fabricated and Prakash is a mere pawn.
As the protestors turned violent the Hub City police resorted to tear gas shelling and aerial firing and had to take 20 protesters into custody.
Police officers including Hub Circle Deputy Sub-Inspector Police Jan Mohammad Khosa as well as Police Constable Mukhtiar Ahmed, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Tariq Javed Mengal were injured in the violence, along with an Edhi rescue official and a child as per the Dawn News.
The child died later as he had received bullet wounds which turned fatal. His identity has not been determined but the scared Hindu community in Balochistan had to shut down all businesses. Blasphemy against Islam is a serious offense in Pakistan.
On blasphemy charges, last year, a Hindu boy and a Hindu girl paid a massive price but failed to get any justice from the state.
Balochistan has been in the news for violence against the Hindus for long
