Yogi Adityanath, the Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur, broke down in the Lok Sabha in 2007 alleging a “political conspiracy” against him by the Uttar Pradesh Government.
Yogi Adityanath alleged that he was being “framed”. The cases in which he had been cleared by the CB-CID years back were being reopened as he was raising public issues and speaking out against corruption and the growing activities of the ISI along the Indo-Nepal border, he charged.
Amid chants of “shame, shame” from BJP members, Yogi Adityanath claimed that 14 of his supporters had been booked under the National Security Act and he himself was not provided any reason for his arrest for seven days.
The Speaker told the House that he had sought a report from the Union Home Ministry on the incident and would personally look into the matter.
“We will do whatever is within our jurisdiction but we have to follow a procedure. There is a certain inadequacy of powers,” Mr. Chatterjee said.
The MP said if he failed to get protection from the House, “I have no intention of continuing as a member even for a minute.”
