Former Jawaharlal Nehru University students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar had a narrow escape on Wednesday, after his car was pelted with stones in Indore.
While addressing a lecture at the Anand Mohar Mathur auditorium, Kumar was heckled as per a report on News18. Kumar was in Indore as the special guest at a programme to welcome teams from the All India Students’ Federation and the All India Youth Federation, which were passing through Indore during their ‘Kanyakumari to Kashmir Yatra’.
Nationalist Activists of the Bharat Swabhiman Manch, tried to storm the auditorium, claiming they would not let him hold the lecture.
The outfit insisted that “those talking about dividing the country won’t be allowed to address the event”. They also threatened to blacken the faces of Kumar and the organisers.
The protesters, opposing Kumar’s arrival, said he played a role in the alleged anti-national slogan shouting at Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2016.
After the function, however, the car carrying Kumar was pelted with stones. He was accompanied by Dr Anand L Rai, the whistleblower of the Vyapam scam.
Rai said that when he and Kumar were heading towards Gita Bhavan Square after the programme, an unidentified person threw a stone at their jeep near Vijaynagar. It broke the left-side windscreen. The police is yet to file a lodge a case.
