A 30-year-old software engineer from Bangalore was allegedly molested by a passenger while she was asleep in one of the AC coaches on the Duronto Express late on Wednesday. The accused, a Bangaldeshi national, has been arrested.
According to the government railway police (GRP) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST), the woman was travelling alone from West Bengal to Mumbai for a meeting. She had gone to Bengal from Bangalore for work.
The man, Mohammad Ayub Sulaiman, 23, is a Bangladeshi national, who was seated in the middle berth, while the victim occupied the middle berth opposite his.
The incident took place around midnight when the train was between Nagpur and Bhusaval. The victim was fast asleep when he touched her inappropriately on her back and then held her hand, the police said. The woman alerted the ticket examiner and said he took photographs of her with his cell phone.
The woman got down at Bhusaval station and informed the GRP. As the train does not halt there for more than 10 minutes, she was asked to approach GRP official at CST. After the train reached CST at 10am on Thursday, she with the help of the examiner and others brought Sulaiman to the GRP station.
An FIR was registered under section 354 (criminal force on a woman outraging her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been transferred to the Bhusval GRP.
