Even as India summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and issued a demarche against Pakistan on Monday, terming the death sentence against Kulbhushan Jadhav a ‘case of premeditated murder’, the issue dominated discussions in Parliament on Tuesday morning with the usually bickering Parliament uniting in demanding justice for Jadhav.
Congress gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the matter.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the government would come across as weak if no action was taken against the death sentence against Jadhav.Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj also condemned the death sentence in Rajya Sabha, there was no evidence of wrongdoing. She also warned Pakistan of the impact this would have on bilateral ties if the country acted on the sentence. She said it was an “indefensible verdict against an innocent kidnapped Indian.”
Swaraj calling Jadhav the ‘son of India’ said she would go to any extent to save him.It further said, “If this sentence against an Indian citizen, awarded without observing basic norms of law and justice, is carried out, the Government and people of India will regard it as a case of premeditated murder.
On The other hand,If Pakistan hangs (Kulbhushan) Jadhav , then India must recognize Balochistan as an independent country,” said BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday, following yesterday’s announcement that it has sentenced the Indian national to death. We should prepare to take stringent action against Pakistan. Today, we should give warning that consequences would be bad for Pakistan if Jadhav is executed,” Swamy had told reporters outside the Parliament.
